PROTESTERS IN NIGERIA DESTROY MTN OFFICES OVER XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS





Nigerians are not taking the xenophobic attacks on African nationals in South Africa lightly, in retaliation to these attacks, Nigerians have began massively protesting and boycotting South African owned businesses and services.



Companies like Mutichoice and Shoprite have been deeply affected the protests and boycott. Recent company to be affected by the protests against the Xenophobic attacks is South African owned telecom giant MTN.

Several MTN offices across Nigeria have been attacked and vandalised by angry Nigeria protesters. In videos sighted, MTN offices in Nigeria were raided and equipments vandalised.



Other Nigerians have also thrown away their MTN sims, modems and routers all in protest against the xenophobic attacks.


Netizens bitterly wept after videos of the recent killings, looting, burning and destruction of properties owned by foreign nationals living in South Africa surfaced online. Most of these properties, cars, businesses and homes belonged to Nigerian citizens in South Africa.

These violent lootings and killings have deeply incited Nigerians to retaliate against South African businesses in Nigeria.

South African Ambassador to Nigeria has however denied any knowledge of these Xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa. These attacks are a great threat to the diplomatic ties the two nations share.

President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to these Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa by sending a Special Envoy to South Africa to convey his grievances to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, regarding the attacks on Nigerian citizens and properties.
